Dr (Prof) Mahendra Singh

Dr. Mahendra Singh is currently a Professor of Civil Engineering at Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Roorkee. He obtained B.E. (Civil) in 1983 from M.N.R. Engineering College, Allahabad; M. Tech. in 1985 from IIT Kanpur and PhD in 1997 from IIT Delhi. Prof Singh has been in teaching profession since 1985. His research interests include slopes, landslides, engineering behaviour of jointed rocks and underground structures. He has supervised eleven PhD theses and more than 55 M. Tech dissertations. He has authored more than 110 papers in journals and conferences. He is recipient of several IGS best paper and ISRMTT best paper awards including ISRMTT award for outstanding contribution in Rock Mechanics-2011. Currently he is the chairman of ISRM (India) National Group. Prof. Singh has a long association with the IGS. During past he has been honorary secretary of the IGS Roorkee chapter and at present he is the chairman of the Roorkee chapter. He is also a member of National Executive Committee member of the Indian Geotechnical Society. He has been actively involved in organising workshops, seminars and conferences. He was involved in organising three Indian Geotechnical Conferences i.e. IGC-2002 (Allahabad), IGC-2003 (Roorkee) and IGC-2013 (Roorkee) in various capacities. Very recently he organised International Training Course on Landslide Risk Assessment and Mitigation (LARAM-India 2020), February 17-22, 2020, in collaboration with University of Salerno, Italy and NTNU Norway under the aegis of IGS Roorkee chapter.
