Dr Avtar K Raina

Dr. Avtar K. Raina is working as Senior Principal Scientist at CSIR-Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research and Professor at AcSIR. He did his Masters (Gold Medallist), M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Geology from Jammu and Kashmir. Later he did his 2nd Ph.D. in Mining Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-ISM), India on ‘Flyrock Prediction and Control’. He has around 149 publications with 3 books and several chapters in books to his credit on various sub-categories of blasting including blast induced damage to rockmass, ground vibration and air overpressure, fragmentation and human annoyance due to blasting. He devised the FRAGALYST Software for Blast fragmentation measurement which has received lot of citation on internet and other platforms and is being used by industry and academia. He also devised several other software(s) like CMRI_ROCK (rockmass classification software), Blast Design Database Analysis Package (BD2MAS - a comprehensive surface and underground blasting software) etc. He has completed more than 22 R&D, 80 Industry Sponsored and other projects with lot of savings to the industry. With a total research experience of around 30 years, he has 15 awards to his credit including National Geoscience Award (MoM, GoI). He has several patents and copyrights to his credit. He has guided 6 researchers for their Ph.D. and around 30 PG and UG students. His research interests are Fragmentation, Rockmass damage due to blasting, Environmental concerns of blasting, IT in Mining and Rock Engineering.
